Searching the catalogue

This guide details how to search the interim catalogue for the collection items you would like to view

Searching the catalogue

There’s a search box on the home page of the catalogue. This is a simple search: you can type anything into this box and the search will look at the different parts of the catalogue to find the specified words.

What should I write in the box?

You can use a single word, several words, a phrase, numbers, dates, or a combination of these terms. Choose words that describe the subject of your research or enter the surname of an author and a significant word from a title. Click on the magnifying glass on the right of the box to search.

  • You can be very general – for example you could just type in the word austen.
  • The result will include all records which contain the word austen anywhere in it (it may not initially be obvious).
  • Or you could be more specific – austen pride prejudice.
  • You don’t need to use the word AND to link your terms.

This search will return all records which contain the words austen AND pride AND prejudice.

The more specific your search, the fewer results you will get back. You can be as specific or as general as you want.
