What's currently available

This guide provides up to date details of which services are currently available following last year's cyber-attack, and which aren't.

In our Reading Rooms

We have 11 Reading Rooms in London and one in Yorkshire. These are quiet, dedicated spaces where you can access items in our collection. You can also use the Reading Rooms for personal study even if you’re not using any collection items.

Anyone over 18 can use these rooms, you just need a free Reader Pass.

Each Reading Room has a different speciality, and some items can only be consulted in certain rooms. We also have specialist staff – our Reference team – in each room who can help you consult our collection.

In our rooms you can:

  • consult books, journals and other items from our collection
  • access general reference material on the open-access shelves. Some Reading Rooms have the most recent collections available on open access
  • ask for help from our specialists at the Reference Enquiry desks
  • consult subject guides, bibliographies and other research aids.
