Sound and vision

Access to our Sound and Vision collection is through the Listening and Viewing Service, which is in the Rare Books & Music Reading Room and is by advance appointment only

What material can be accessed?

We can give access to sound archive material located at St Pancras in Basements 2 & 3.

Audio requests are being digitised and are made accessible via CDRs through a listening appointment. This process takes 8 – 10 weeks. Please note, requests are assessed by the our team and sometimes materials cannot be digitised for conservation reasons.

To request material for a listening appointment or for assistance with finding material in the sound archive contact the Sound and Vision Reference Team.

Additionally, we are now able to give access to BBC Sound Archive recordings (directly from the BBC Sound Archive). It takes 2 – 3 weeks to process BBC Archive requests and access to this material is by advanced listening appointment only. To request recordings from the BBC Sound Archive please contact our team.
